President's Message
Greetings to all members and stakeholders,
It is with deep humility, gratitude, and pride that I address you as the newly sworn-in President of the Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists (CASMET).
We live in an age of rapid transformation. As a profession, we face multiple challenges: tight budgets, changing regulatory landscapes, supply chain uncertainties, workforce shortages, and mounting demands for quality, accreditation, and fast turnaround times.
Yet within those challenges lie tremendous opportunities. Emerging technologies — automation, digitalization, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and integrated laboratory management systems — are opening doors that only a few decades ago we could only imagine. That is precisely why our theme for this biennium is “The Future of Medical Laboratory Science: Harnessing Technology, Redefining Work.”
As a regional association, CASMET stands ready to help us navigate both the risks and rewards of this critical moment.
Some may ask: What is CASMET? What does the association do? Why should I join? My answer is simple: CASMET is you. The strength and value of CASMET come directly from its members — from medical technologists and laboratory professionals across the Caribbean.
When you join CASMET, you are not merely a passive participant. You become a co-creator. Together, we shape our offerings: training, advocacy, networking, accreditation support, mentorship, and scientific exchange. Whatever our community needs, we can build. Whatever you want, that is the benefit.
The more you engage — by attending meetings, sharing ideas, volunteering, joining committees — the more we all gain.
Be proud of our work. We are guardians of health, quality, and patient safety. Much of what we do happens behind the scenes, but its impact is profound. Even if patients never see us, they rely on the precision, rigor, and care of our work. That responsibility demands that we hold our heads high.
We must not fear change. Instead, we should embrace innovation. Let us think creatively. The old ways may no longer suffice. We must be bold, imaginative, and adaptable. If we remain rigid, we risk being left behind.
My vision for CASMET is:
- Laboratories across the Caribbean certifying personnel under shared standards.
- Islands sharing resources, elevating their practices, and benchmarking against one another.
- Increased publication in peer-reviewed journals, deeper inter-island collaboration, pooled purchasing power, shared data, and unified advocacy for recognition, regulation, and sustainable funding.
As an affiliate of 糖心原创vlog, we are part of a larger, global community of laboratory professionals. 糖心原创vlog offers invaluable resources to help us further develop our skills, and for that, we are deeply grateful. Let us continue to expand our horizons through active networking and collaboration.
I look forward to serving as your CASMET President over the next biennium. Together, we will build a stronger, more forward-looking Caribbean laboratory community.
Thank you for your trust, your energy, and your commitment.
Sheldon Simson
President, Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists (CASMET)
